Chicago Parker: Why don’t Pay Boxes accept dollar bills?

Emily: Great question! The Pay Boxes accept credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx and Discover), as well as quarters and dollar coins. 

Chicago Parking Meters wants to provide parkers with the most dependable parking system available. The mechanism used to read dollar bills are unpredictable in Chicago’s harsh climate and have tendency to malfunction.
